Sheliach as a Salesman

Let me just state the obvious. A good salesman can sell anything. It is actually a hard skill to learn. There are people who are naturally good at sales. They often don’t have exaggerated ego, they are not burdened by conscience, they are mechanically methodical, they are quick to calculate and size up others and they mastered the art of subtle deference and flattery to close the sale. Salesmen are not burdened by ideology or ideals in general, they think and live transactionally. They are usually very bad lovers because emotions are hindrance to their business. This is precisely the type of a person that inevitably "succeeds" on Shlichus. We have one dude here that runs Chai Center in Brookline. He has been overheard calling himself a star. Indeed his stardom is not to be confused with any sort of spiritual message God forbid. He is a salesman. His skill is to calculate the transactional value of every encounter and pimp aggressively. One day I will address this very issue in a greater detail.
