Lack of imagination? Not at all. Instead what happened with Jews is similar to what happened in Russia. Jews just like Russians suffer from a battered woman syndrome. No matter how much a husband beats her, she is convinced that it's better that no husband at all. So Russia appoints a KGB apparatchik as a Tsar and the worst elements of the old regime take power to abuse and enslave the populace. Similar tragedy with Jews. Instead of cleansing, instead of shaking the yoke of corrupt Rebbes and Rabbis they fell into the same trap. And this is not only Chassidim or Misnagdim, even the Conservative appointed an einikle to lead them. The dark princes are back in power, are back cultivating the culture of servility. But the bright, imaginative heroes are still rejects as always, eating Chulent on the wrong day of the week.
