Why beat around the bushes. Der Nister paints a devastating picture of Ukrainian Jewish town. Rebbes and Rabbis in collusion with thieves, enforcers and gangsters. Everything for sale, honor and whores. The very inheritors of this injustice today shamelessly claim the Jewish legacy. The same families that brought about the collapse of civilization persist as Rebbes. People who’s name is Twersky should hide their faces in shame not sit at the head of the table and not only Twersky... There is no conscience; there is no tradition of conscience. As 100 years ago there was not other choice for honest people but to leave or worse rebel, because the moment you are tagged as a person of substance who dares to care for other human beings you are a marked man amongst the Jews. Just like 100 years ago in Berdichev honor, truth and yes “social justice” is not welcomed on the Jewish street. Servility is still the most cherished and cultivated trait. Shame on Jews.

And in the novel in the end the bustards even chased out the Breslovers with a cart full of shit.

And don’t tell me, having Jimmy Gourary as his right hand man was from the same Der Nister script. Heck marring a Gourary in the first place was from the same script.
