Nathan Strauss and L.D. Brandeis & [reform] Rabbi S.S. Wise (Bain News Service). Nathan Straus was a philanthropist and a practical Zionist. Co-owner of Macy�s since 1896. The Israeli town of Netanya is named in his honor. S.S. Wise was the first (honorary) secretary of the American Federation of Zionists; and at the Second Zionist Congress (Basel, 1898) he was a delegate, and secretary for the English language.
