Schneersons in Australia
moishe schmuel: There are descendants whose family name is Schneir and are ben acher ben from ZZ who live in Melbourne Australia. There are about 400 einykel of the Alter Rebbe who live in Australia, but the majority are not Lubavich. We are the ggg grandchildren of Menucha Rochel and Yaacov Culi Slonim whose grandchildren lived in Chevron and moved to Melbourne Australia in 1900.
aaron zalman sharpe: There was a Rabbi Schneerson who came to Australia during the goldrush in the 1850s and collected a lot of Tzedaka. He left for South Africa and was never heard of again.
Schneur Zalman of NY: The Schneerson who came to Australia was not a Rav in the traditional sense. He was Rabbi Chaim Zvi Schneersohn an emissary from Hebron collecting funds for the yishuv. He was a world traveler and even met President Grant in the White House. He was a great grandson of the infamous Rav Moshe Ben Admor Hazaken, Rather than being "lost" there is a complete bio of him available by Klausner.
bais harav: I am impressed that Australia can produce 400 eineklach of the Alter Rebbe. I dont think that in NYC you can get more than half of that.
aaron zalman sharpe: There may not be 400 eineklach of the Alter Rebbe in Australia. There is a difference of opinion on whether the Slonim women who married into the Rivlin family had any children. If so the statement is correct. We are getting colleagues to search in Teverya . This info came from the family of Yankel Rosenbaum Z"l, who are tracing their yichus as they are einykel of the Gra and most likely the Alter Rebbe.
Schneur Zalman of NY: There are hundreds of descendants of the Alter Rebbe in the USA. For starters the Butmans, the Groners, all descendants of Grand rabbi Moses Teitelbaum, all desco of Grand rabbi Shlomo Halberstam of Bobov. All descendants of the Rebbe Schneersohn Twersky of Crown Heights. There is an association of such people that meets annually in Crown Heights. Lets not forget the Seligsons, and the Twerski family from Milwaukee and others . I bet there are probably close to 5,000 such descendants in the US... at least. Few of these people are Lubavitcher Chasidim.
